Sofia, 28 September 2011

Bulgarian teachers and young learners took part in a traditional tea ceremony and learned about the Japanese history, culture, fine arts and language. The event was organized by the Business Foundation for Education as a part of the European project YELL – Young Europeans Love Languages.

The demonstration took place in Chado Urasenke Tankokai - an Association for Popularization of the Japanese culture, founded in 1992 as a Club of people interested in Tea Ceremony. The hosts introduced the thorough philosophy of Chado, The Way of Tea, a Japanese tradition with more than 400 years of history, including the growth, picking, sorting, making, serving, drinking and enjoying the tea. As the participants become familiar with different aspects of the Japanese culture and lifestyle, they felt like entering an entire new world. They got their first lesson in Japanese language and were fascinated by the immense harmony and richness of the Japanese traditions.

The experience of Chado Urasenke in promoting the Japanese language and traditions is presented as a best practice in the virtual documentation center of the website.
