European language label award ceremony
The ceremony took place in Vienna at the occasion of the international conference „Participating actively in labour market and society with language competences”.
Language learning is one of the key competences in the modern labour market. The profound work experience as an education provider for language learning training covering various languages, different levels, for business clients as well as for individual clients inspired Volkshochschule im Landkreis Cham e.V. three years ago to initiate the project “Young Europeans Love Language (YELL)” which is supported by the European Commission. In 2011 YELL was awarded with the European Language Label.
On the initiative of the European Commission the European Language Label awards projects and initiatives throughout Europe. Nine projects initiated in Germany were awarded with the European Language Label 2011 due to their innovative methodologies and concepts for language learning and also the intension to improve language learning competences.
The ceremony took place in Vienna within the programme of the international conference „Participating actively in labour market and society with language competences”. The conference was hosted by the National Agencies for the European Lifelong Learning Programme from Belgium (German-speaking community), Germany and Austria.
During the ceremony, Dr. Bernd Althusmann, the president of the German Assembly of Ministers for Culture, expressed that “the prizes are given to very different but exceptional programmes that have one thing in common: They have a network of competent partners, they are very innovative and they have been already implemented as best practice. In order to enforce language learning in Europe effectively, many more of these projects and ideas could be required.”
